I Love Frogs

These are shadows from my short piece "I LOVE FROGS!"
I was inspired to create this show while in Buoch, Germany

When I conduct my shadow programs with kids I start by performing this piece.  It links science & light units with art by bringing a frogs metamorphosis to life through paper cuts outs & shadows.  I like to then have the kids create their owns shadow puppets and perform them bringing classroom lessons to life in an educational and entertaining way!  I have done programs highlighting on both science and social studies curriculum.

GEMS School Program

This past March 2012, Sarah Frechette and Jason Thibodeaux conducted an Artist-in-Residency program at the Georgia Elementary School, VT.  They worked with 3rd & 4th graders creating original shadow puppet shows that combined Vermont History and Art. The students performed their final pieces for the entire elementary student body and their parents.

The presentation that was recorded by LCATV, click here

The program was made possible by grants from the Vermont Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, Georgia Enrichment Program, Georgia Friends of the Arts, and the GEMS PTO and a donation of flashlights was provided by Energizer of St. Albans. We would also like to thank whoever provided the anonymous donation!

The Snowflake Man

This is my UNIMA award winning show -- THE SNOWFLAKE MAN -- a puppet show about Vermont farmer Wilson Bentley, who took the first photographs of snow crystals. Snowflake Bentley was only 19 years old at the time and his life and photographs are an important part of Vermont History. The Snowflake Man is supported in part by a Creation Grant from the Vermont Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts!

This watercolor background is by Vermont artist Bruce Lee. The head is sculpted & painted by artist Jason Thibodeaux. Jason will also help direct this show. The camera and stand are by miniature artist Daniel Miller. Other artists involved are fashion designer Kathy Wieland; sound designer Casi Pacilio; puppeteer Carole D'Agostino; sculptors Tony Candelaria & Stef Choi; and prop artists Jennifer Kolman and Kathren Moss. I worked with many great & talented friends on this project.

Oh yea, I made Bentley a sharp dressed man!

Lady Maiikawa

I hand carved this marionette out of wood. It is the essence of my friend Hailey - a symbol of sensuality and diving healing. I collaborated on a performance piece "Black Forest" for Lady Mai with my good friends & artists Stef Choi and Tony Candelaria.
