Marionettes

THE MAN ON THE BURNING TIGHT ROPE

Marionettes I hand carved and painted while mentoring with Master Puppeteer Albrecht Roser.  I stayed at his studio in Germany, discussing and absorbing his theories on Zen and the art of Puppetry.

WALLY

This is a marionette of my Papa Walt.  I carved it while in Buoch, Germany at the studio of Master Puppeteer Albrecht Roser.  When I returned home I showed my Papa Walt the puppet.  "Look Gramp I made a puppet of you!"  He replied "why you didn't make a puppet of me -- you made one of you and me together!"  Oh, the Grandfather is very wise...

Lady Maikawa

I hand carved this marionette our of wood.  It is the essence of my friend Hailey - a symbol of sensuality and diving healing.  I collaborated on a performance piece "Black Forest" for Lady Mai with my good friends & artists Stef Choi and Tony Candelaria.

As the artist collective "Night Shade Dynasty" we blend illustration, masks, puppetry, music and light into a bewitching form of cinematic theater.  During the weekend of July 26 & 27 2008 we performed our shadow play at Liberty Hall in North Portland, OR.

"...the artist collective Night Shade, bring their creepy, fascinating style of puppetry to liberty hall..." writes Inara Verzemnieks, The Oregonian
